SatSaturdayAprApril25th2009 What is multi-site?

It is one church meeting in multiple locations with each campus sharing the same leadership, budget, vision, beliefs and DNA.  United under the LBC name, each campus is a fully-functioning extension of the other with a single-minded aim; to reach people with the life-changing message of the Gospel and help them become fully devoted followers of Christ.

The Great Commission calls us to reach people with for Christ.  There are numerous people in St. Mary’s county yet to be reached.  An article from Leadership Network (“Extending Your Church to More than One Place,” Warren Bird, 2003) sums it up well:  “The key to understanding the multi-site movement is to remember that fulfilling the Great Commission drives these congregations . . . Multi-site is a proactive strategy for reaching more people, not just a reactive response to over-crowding.”

Our plans are for the first campus to have a campus pastor who will deliver the message live.  Pastor Fields will serve as the first campus pastor.  Participants at each site of LBC will hear a common message based upon the same Scripture and outline.

We are looking for sites that enable us to have Bible Study for all age groups.  Our goal is for each campus to be “fully-functioning.”
SatSaturdayAprApril25th2009 What about other activities such as AWANA, Youth, Children's Choir, etc.?

We will remain one church.  Just as a young person participates in AWANA whether they go to the 9:45 service or the 11:15 service now, so it will be whether they attend the Leonardtown campus or any other campus.
SatSaturdayAprApril25th2009 Will the other site have its own budget?

No, LBC will have one budget.  Any site that exists will contribute to the one budget, and the budget of LBC will provide for the needs of any site that is functioning.
SatSaturdayAprApril25th2009 Isn't LBC large enough as it is?

Size is a relative thing.  People who come from mega-church backgrounds consider LBC as it is as small.  Those who have grown up in the typical Baptist church consider LBC as it is as huge.  The reality is that people need to experience community and fellowship in their church experience.  The larger a church grows in numbers the more difficult that becomes.  Yet we are called to reach people for Christ and grow the kingdom of God larger.  Multi-site enables us to do both; we grow larger while remaining smaller.  There is the growth of the kingdom of God; yet there is also the closeness of smaller groups to maintain community and fellowship.

SatSaturdayAprApril25th2009 Why does LBC want to start other locations?

We desire to begin new sites because we are a healthy congregation.  Many churches talk theoretically about reaching people for Christ but do nothing practically to achieve this important mission.  Multi-site is a practical approach to enable us to reach others.  It takes a healthy congregation with a missional mindset for multi-site to succeed.
